Book One concentrates on developing a good reststroke (apoyando) technique. Notes on the treble strings in first position are learnt and some bass notes are introduced. Well known melodies are combined with original music and many pieces are in the form of duets.
Book Two completes the bass notes in the first position and introduces the freestroke (tirando)technique. Two, three and four note chords are developed and this leads naturally onto arpeggio playing. On completion of this book, students should be equipped to tackle the Grade One Examination of Trinity College Of Music, London.
Discover The Guitar ! has been used as part of my teaching since 1997 and has been thoroughly road tested by my students . There is nothing fundamentally radical about the tutor, but I believe that it is full of interesting and melodic music and there are many opportunities for ensemble playing.
Some sample pages from the tutor can be seen below. They are in .pdf file format for quality , but you will need Acrobat Reader (available free ) to view them . You can also hear samples of some of the music from both books on the .mp3 page.
